Although the main focus of this advertisment is on the two-faced lies of John McCain, the underlying issue is that of illegal immigration, immigration reform and immigrants in America. The ad suggests that John McCain is against immigration of Mexicans into of country. Today that is currently true. McCain's plan for immigration if he is to be elected president is to frist secure our borders and then undergo "comprehensive immigration initiatives for a secure nation." These initiatives include prosecuting employers who hire illegal immigrants, meeting America's labor needs, eliminating family backlog and addressing the problem of undocumented Americans. McCain's plans seem to be fair, although sometimes harsh on illegal immigrants.
McCain's plan was not always like this. Over time McCain's plan for immigration has become more harsh and more difficult for immigrants in this country. His bill written in 2006 "was much broader and included a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants already here." McCain also previously said, "I think we can set up a program where amnesty is extended to a certain number of people who are eligible. Amnesty has to be an important part because there are people who have lived in this country for 20, 30 or 40 years, who have raised children here, paid taxes here and are not citizens. That has to be a component of it." This quotes McCain suggesting amnesty for some illegal immigrants who he would now have leave or undergo a grueling process. Some would view his immigration lawas as too harsh while others may views them as not harsh enough. Before voting, a citizen must choose how they feel on this subject and base their vote on that. They may however ask themselves if McCain is trustworthy enough. If he has gone back on his word so many times in the past, what will prevent him fromdoing it in the future?
